DAY SKIPPER & TRADITONAL VOYAGING PROGRAM (DSTV)

The Day Skipper & Traditional Voyaging Program designed on top of the need of the school to provide more technical programs that will be unique to high school vocational institutions in Tonga.

This program also will development and mitigation towards 

 

1.The growing shortage of certified & skilled maritime navigators and voyaging skills and the under promotion to our youth and high school education systems.

2.The scarce knowledge and steps to the preservation of our traditional navigation and voyaging skills.

 

 

DSTV

  • A comprehensive vocational studies program offered within St. Andrew’s High School, strategically designed as a 72-day intensive training experience distributed across the four academic terms.
  • This innovative approach ensures maximum learning time while accommodating the school’s existing academic calendar and the availability of specialized facilitators.
  • The program integrates three essential components that work together to produce well-rounded maritime professionals with both modern certifications and traditional cultural knowledge

The school having started the program this year will only expand next year to have its first students certified under the Day Skipper Assesment of the New Zealand Coastguard.
